No. An RFE is not a denial. It means the USCIS officer needs additional evidence or clarification before deciding and believes the deficiency may be curable. Many cases that receive an RFE are ultimately approved when the applicant submits a complete, well-documented, and timely response that addresses every issue raised.

How long do I have to respond to a USCIS RFE?

USCIS sets the deadline, which is printed on your RFE notice (Form I-797E). The maximum response period is generally up to about 84 days (twelve weeks), but your specific deadline may be shorter, so read the notice carefully. USCIS must receive your complete response by that date, and RFE deadlines generally cannot be extended.

What happens if I miss the RFE deadline?

If USCIS does not receive your response by the deadline, the officer will typically decide the case on the existing record, which usually means a denial because the record was already found insufficient.
